The Haven of Revitalised Thinking

Understand your emotions, and everything changes.

Counselling, mentoring and reflective practice grounded in emotional intelligence, helping you build self-awareness, resilience and purposeful action.

The approach

Rooted in emotional intelligence, built for lasting change

Emotional wellbeing is not simply the absence of distress. It is the capacity to understand and manage your emotions so you can thrive, personally, professionally and socially.

Our practice draws on the pioneering work of psychologist Daniel Goleman. Self-awareness, recognising and accurately interpreting our emotional states, is the foundation of emotional intelligence, and the starting point for meaningful change.

We also work with Goleman's idea of the "passion slaves": how unmanaged emotions can dominate rational thought and lead to impulsive behaviour, anxiety, procrastination and self-sabotage. Rather than suppressing emotion, we help you recognise your triggers, regulate difficult feelings, and respond with intention.

Because emotional intelligence is not a fixed trait. It is a lifelong capability that can be consciously developed.

Tony Snow

Founder of THORT 路 Counsellor, Mentor & Hypnotherapy Practitioner

I have always been fascinated by what drives people. Why do some individuals flourish under pressure while others become overwhelmed? Why do intelligent, capable people sometimes struggle with confidence, motivation or self-belief? These questions have shaped much of my professional life, and ultimately inspired the creation of THORT, The Haven of Revitalised Thinking.

For more than two decades I have worked in higher education, mentoring and professional development, supporting people through periods of change, uncertainty and personal growth. My experience has shown me that meaningful transformation rarely comes from being told what to do. It comes from developing a deeper understanding of ourselves: our emotions, our thinking, and the patterns of behaviour that influence the choices we make every day.

My approach is grounded in the principles of emotional intelligence and the belief that greater self-awareness is the foundation for lasting change. Whether you are facing anxiety, struggling with motivation, navigating a career transition or simply seeking greater clarity and fulfilment, I aim to create a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can reflect, explore and move forward with confidence.

Alongside my work as an educator, I am a qualified hypnotherapy practitioner and a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society. Where appropriate, I integrate evidence-informed hypnotherapeutic techniques with counselling skills, reflective practice and mentoring, so the support is tailored to the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all model.

THORT reflects my conviction that personal development is not about becoming someone different. It is about becoming more fully yourself. Because every person already possesses the capacity for growth. Sometimes, all that is needed is the right environment, the right questions, and someone willing to walk alongside them as they rediscover their own strengths.
